Pamela Davis's Statement

Vibrant color, unusual shapes, and whimsical patterns best describe my woven tapestries. Mystical images can carry secrets from the ancient ones when I combine traditional tapestry techniques and ancient symbols in a contemporary design. I dye wool yarn in my underground studio for the snappy colors of the weft. The Irish linen I use for my warp provides structure and an aroma reminiscent of the outdoors. Guiding the weft through the warp I coerce the fibers to visualize my enchantment with the natural world. Currently my tapestries are exploring a sense of place through the use of Celtic interlock patterns.

Pamela Davis's Biography

“Don’t forget the red ball!” When I designed my first series of tapestries all I could hear in my head were the words of my artistic mother when posing for family photographs. She strongly felt a touch of red could fix a flaw in any photograph. This need for brightness in my world apparently was inherited. As a youngster my world seemed aglow with color, whether playing in the multi-colored fall leaves, watching a cascade of colors pour into the lake at sunset, or selecting fabric to sew a new pair of shorts. Later in life, during a career in costume jewelry and women’s socks, color was my primary appeal. Eventually, I found my voice in the art of tapestry where my enchantment with the natural world, a passion for color, and my Celtic heritage could be woven into delightful images.
