Jane Hoffman's Statement

Having lived most of my life next to the Blue Range Wilderness, I feel connected to my natural environment. Through my tapestries, I hope to convey a sense of the precious that is integral to the ecology of the landscape and to inspire the viewers’ sense of their relationship to the earth’s natural environments.

Fiber has unique physical responses to light and tactile qualities that I find irresistible. I weave with wool, alpaca, angora, mohair, cotton and silk fibers. I use dye plants from the forest and my garden to create natural dyes for my yarn palette of soft graduated hues. Through fiber, my love for the landscape has merged with my fascination with tapestry as an art form.
