Terri K. Stewart's Biography
I was lucky enough to have a very unique home life. Our family business was
a working boatyard; We lived, worked, and played there and my grandparents
lived next door to us. We had a large variety of animals, aquariums, and my
brothers and I even had our own little skiffs to motor around the bay and explore
all the mangrove and spoil islands. My parents and grandparents firmly believed
in diving into projects feet first...be it artistic interests, working on cars or boat
motors, building tree forts 30 feet in the air, and if your hands got dirty, well,
there was plenty of soap.
Coming from such a background, I ended up being self-taught in a variety of
interests: Pencil drawing, leather work, embroidery, cross-stitch, designing
wood furniture, designing my next home. I am retired from go-kart racing but
still fill in as pit crew for my husband's races. Tapestry weaving was also self-
taught thanks to Nancy Harvey's videos. Since that time I have taken a number
of workshops from my peers and now teach locally and nationally. I also owned
a fiber art shop. My other memberships include TWS, HGA, and was a co-
founder of TAOS (Tapestry Artists Of Sarasota).
