Linda Weghorst's Statement
When I wove the tapestry of Othar Turner I was inspired by his life as described by a beloved friend ‘He was the most complete human being I’ve ever met. His life, art, work, family and whole belief system was one thing, no separation.” In recent years my path has been to integrate all aspects my life, no separation. This has led me to see my art from a very personal viewpoint. Drawing concepts from people, place and activities that are near and dear to me. My family and my passion for kayaking inspired my images and ideas. My tapestries have become smaller in scale, with figurative images that embody tales and stories, past and present. The concept guiding my "Impact" series is the view of the world which I see from my kayak. The paddling process changes me, helps me to observe beauty, to feel stronger, more vibrant, and ultimately more appreciative of the fragile life around us. Integrating a variety of textile-making processes with tapestry, allows the rich and varied vocabulary I seek to depict my images and ideas.
